Sciencenter receives grant for geothermal heating
ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – The Sciencenter is taking a step toward sustainability.
The popular interactive museum will receive $997,140 in state funding for its Green Retrofit project. It will help replace old HVAC equipment with a carbon-neutral geothermal heat pump system.
The new equipment provides a longer useful life, and the project will reduce the Sciencenter’s energy and maintenance costs. It’s funded by New York’s Pro-Housing Community Capital Grant Program.
State officials call the Sciencenter an “essential cultural and educational institution,” and say retrofitting its heating system with sustainable infrastructure “will be impactful in attracting residents and visitors to the region.”
